Final round of consultation on borough’s Local Plan

sutton-2031-logo_26934471735_oSutton Council is about to put out the draft Local Plan for its final round of consultation. The Local Plan sets out a 15 year vision for the future of housing, employment, transport, schools and other community facilities in the borough.

It is expected the draft Local Plan will be agreed to go out to consultation by the council’s Housing, Economy and Business committee on 6 December. The plan is the result of considerable earlier consultation with local residents, reflects and responds to those views and is designed to protect the unique character and heritage of the borough.

Councillor Jayne McCoy, Chair of the Housing, Economy and Business Committee at Sutton Council, said:

“Sutton is a unique borough, full of character and heritage and a place many of us are rightly proud to call home. To ensure Sutton continues to be a pleasant place in which to live, work or visit we need to have careful and considered local planning policies.

“Our new draft Local Plan will preserve and protect our borough’s character, green spaces and heritage, whilst appropriately responding to the demand to provide much needed extra housing for local residents. It demonstrates our ambition to grow the borough and secure future prosperity, whilst preserving what makes Sutton special.

“I want to thank all those residents that took time and effort to let us know what matters most to them and what they wanted to see in the draft plan. We have listened to all those views regarding sites, sizes and scales of development and think this draft Local Plan now reflects those views, whilst addressing the current and future issues we face as a borough.”
