Work underway for Beddington Lane improvement

Work is underway on a major £3.56m improvement scheme in Beddington Lane and Hilliers Lane to improve the travel experience for pedestrians and cyclists.

Sutton Council has secured £1.86m funding from Transport for London (TfL) for the Beddington North TfL Major Scheme with council funding of £1.7m giving a total budget of £3.56m.

Sutton Council, in partnership with TfL, consulted with the local community group Beddington North Neighbourhood Forum and the Beddington for Business Business Improvement District (BID) to develop the Beddington North Major Scheme.

A new pedestrian and cycle route will run alongside the entire length of Beddington Lane. The Beddington Lane/Asda junction will have a new roundabout, a safe pedestrian and cycle crossing, while road resurfacing and kerb works will take place around the Beddington Lane Tramlink stop.

The scheme will help showcase the character of the Conservation Area around Beddington Village with new pedestrian crossings and improved management of heavy goods vehicles.  Pedestrian and cycle crossings will be installed throughout Beddington Lane providing safer travel for residents.

The first phase of the Beddington North TfL Major Scheme starts from 22 January and will last approximately 16 weeks.

Further information on the sequence of works, planned improvements and temporary road closures will be updated regularly on the council’s webpage. Individual local works will have their own signage and properties immediately next to the works will be notified by a formal letter.
