A food bank supported by the Roundshaw Community Network has been officially opened by the Mayor of Sutton after receiving a grant of £1,000 through Sutton Council’s Beddington and Wallington Area Committee. The food bank in Wallington is also being supported by matched funding of £1,000 from Metropolitan Housing which manages the Roundshaw estate.
The funding from the two organisations is being used to support the purchase of all the equipment needed to set up the food bank.
The food bank will serve residents in the east of the borough who have previously had to get to an existing facility in central Sutton. This involves a significant journey simply to obtain food for individuals and families already in hardship.
The food bank will be based at St Michael and All Angels church in Milton Road, South Beddington and is being supported by a wide range of churches in the area. Volunteers have been trained and the food bank is now up and running.
The Roundshaw Community Network is a group of local residents and church groups on the Roundshaw Estate in Wallington that promotes community involvement on Roundshaw.
