A British Heart Foundation report shows that 8,000 women die each year as a result of unequal heart attack care.
Heart attack symptoms in women can differ from those seen in men, and it is a failure to recognise these symptoms that can lead to unnecessary deaths
Carshalton & Wallington MP Tom Brake said:
“It is time to stop considering heart attacks a male-only problem. The failure to recognise the widespread nature of this medical emergency and misdiagnosis of its symptoms have contributed to the tragic deaths of women throughout the UK.”
“We must work for a greater understanding of the symptoms of heart attacks in women so that those affected can seek help quickly, and those treating them can provide optimal care.
