Sutton Women Mean Business Awards in association with Willmott Dixon launched on International Women’s Day (Friday, 8th March 2019) with the unveiling of a unique commemorative portrait exhibition.
Over tea, cakes and prosecco at Sutton Point more than 80 guests heard inspirational speeches from business, political and community leaders – including top local entrepreneur Susie Ma – who all embraced the International Women’s Day theme ‘Balance for Better.’
Guests also got a first look at the stunning, specially commissioned Pop Art portraits in the Sutton Inspirational Women Photographic Exhibition. All 14 featured women were nominated by local organisations because their success and ability to make a difference in their chosen fields mark them out as role models for other women.
The new awards, a joint initiative between Successful Sutton BID and White Label Creative, are open to women working across all professions, businesses and sectors, including charities and social enterprise, in Sutton.
There are eight free and easy-to-enter categories, and you can register and apply – or nominate someone else – in up to three at www.suttonwomenmeanbusiness.co.uk
The eventual winners, who will go on to be next year’s Sutton Inspirational Women, will be announced at a glittering Gala Dinner in September.
Headline sponsor Willmott Dixon are currently building the new Sutton Secondary School and have set themselves a target to be a gender neutral company by 2030. Welcoming the new programme, Sarah Fraser, Head of the Willmott Dixon Foundation, said: “Willmott Dixon chose to sponsor these awards because they know it takes fantastic women and fantastic men to make fantastic businesses.”
“I am lucky to be included in that small 22% of business leaders who are women because I happen to work for a company that values culture and how engaged their people are above profit – and I am inspired by the fact we are not alone. Between 2007 and 2017 women in Board positions rose from 11% to 28% – I know there is still a long way to go, but let’s celebrate the success we’ve had.”
