The six Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in south west London have been working together for over a year on new developments such as development of Primary Care Networks (PCNs), strengthening of local health and care partnerships and the development of six local health and care plans, which will impact on how we currently operate. Therefore, earlier this year the governing bodies of the six south west London CCGs all agreed to proceed with discussions to potentially merge into a single CCG for south west London. The six CCGs in south west London are: Croydon, Merton, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.
To deliver the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan we need to free-up resources so we can invest in the community and mental health services and in new developments such as Primary Care Networks (PCNs) – groups of GPs coming together in neighbourhoods to provide a wider range of services for local people. PCNs will also be the footprint around which community-based health and social care professionals will deliver more joined-up care for our communities.
Our vision is that each borough will bring together health and care leaders in a local system so that care would be planned and delivered locally with strong clinical leadership. Local health and care partners are currently working together to consider options for their borough.
NHS Sutton CCG is committed to ensuring that the new local health system is both clinically led and retains the ability to engage with and consider the needs of our local communities. If we were to merge, we want to make sure that we design our own model for the way that we work together and in a way that works for our GPs, for our partners and for local people in Sutton.
We believe that coming together offers benefits for our staff – with more career progression across a larger organisation, and with more opportunities for training and development.
We also recognise that potential changes are unsettling for our staff and we will work hard to support our people through this period and involve and engage them on our future together.
NHS Sutton CCG is currently discussing the proposed merger at governing body meetings and with our membership and a decision is expected later this year. We are also engaging with, staff, local authorities, provider trusts and Healthwatch and other stakeholders.
